Norcross renter fights $25,000 packout bill after flood

Peachtree Corners, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – When Allana Botley left town for a New Year’s vacation in Arizona, she didn’t expect a panicked phone call from her neighbor, screaming, “Your pipe burst. There’s water coming from under the door!”

Botley rents a townhouse in Norcross and didn’t know what to do first. A pipe had burst in the attic, flooding her home. With water damage escalating, Botley called her landlords for help. They hired a disaster company, which recommended a packout company to salvage, store, and inventory her belongings.

Botley, who has rented the property for eight years, trusted the referral and authorized the company to start emergency cleanup. But the bill submitted to her insurer was more than twice the amount she expected…
