Teen sentenced to life after deadly shooting at Georgia IHOP

LITHONIA, Ga. — An 18-year-old was sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty in the deadly shooting of a teen outside a restaurant in 2023, according to the DeKalb County District Attorney.

An investigation revealed that just before noon, DeKalb County officers were called to the IHOP located at 3020 Panola Road in Lithonia about a shooting. They found 16-year-old Jacob Johnson lying on the ground, shot in the head, outside the front entrance of the restaurant.

Officials said an employee of the restaurant told officers that the shooter, Jakari Naki Childs, was her ex-boyfriend, who was 16 at the time. The employee informed the officers that Childs had shown up at the restaurant unannounced, looking for her. Johnson, who was friends with the employee, told her about Childs’ arrival. Officials said all three teens attended school together…
