Gwinnett County Police retiring K-9 for health reasons

Gwinnett County police K-9 Egan has been a busy bee in the three years that have passed since the 5-year-old Belgian Malinois joined the police department.

The four-legged officer joined GCPD in March 2022 as a single-purpose K-9 for the department’s SWAT Team. Since then, he’s been deployed on 132 calls and assisted in 30 physical arrests and seven apprehensions. He’s also completed 1,540 hours of training.

But, his body is getting older, his health is starting to decline and his crime fighting days are now coming to an end as a result…
