Atlanta woman, ‘pillar of grace and resilience,’ turns 105

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – An Atlanta woman turned 105 years old on Sunday.

Friends and family gathered with Valena York Henderson to celebrate her milestone birthday.

“Affectionately known as ‘Mother Henderson,’” the great-great grandmother has lived through “monumental changes in America and continues to be a pillar of grace and resilience in her family and community,” said her granddaughter, Felicia Hicks Olawumi.

“As a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and respected elder, her influence has touched generations, and her story is one of enduring love, faith, and service,” Olawumi added…
