Suspect charged with firing shots during attempted Smyrna break-in

Franklin Jawan Jackson, 25, of Smyrna, is accused of attempting to enter a couple’s Smyrna residence by banging and pushing the front door on July 17 at 2:55 p.m., according to an arrest warrant from the Cobb County Police Department.

Jackson had been attempting to enter the backyard of the property and was told leave. Instead, he moved to the front of home. While the victim and her husband barricaded themselves behind the front door, she heard what sounded like a gunshot. There was a bullet hole found in the door and another on the brick door frame within the immediate vicinity, according to the warrant.

Jackson refused to get on the ground by police officers. While being apprehended, he discarded a loaded Taurus handgun into the wood line. Jackson also refused to be placed in the back of the patrol car by pushing away from officers and not turning his body into a seated position. While obstructing the officers, Jackson caused a large tear in one officer’s uniform shirt and kicked that officer three times in the thigh and stomach area. Jackson also kicked at the second officer’s midsection and caused an injury to the officer’s right hand, according to the warrant…
