A mother and her young daughter were hastily rescued from Stone Mountain Lake in a tense incident. As per FOX 5 Atlanta, the drama unfolded Saturday afternoon near the Cherokee Trail when a 9-year-old girl, who had taken off her shoes, slipped on a wet rock and fell into the waters of Stone Mountain Lake. The child’s 44-year-old mother, upon witnessing her daughter’s fall, instinctively jumped into the lake to attempt a rescue, despite neither being able to swim.
The situation escalated quickly, as family members were forced to call 911 and to directly intervene. “The father jumped in to help, and was able to bring the mother closer to shore,” says FOX 5 Atlanta’s report, describing a scene where the family grappled to save both the mother and the daughter from the deep part of the lake. The daughter was first rescued by her brother, but the mother’s return to safety necessitated the assistance from Stone Mountain police officers, who arrived promptly by 3:05 p.m. and extricated the woman from the water.
CPR was administered by the officers to the unconscious mother until paramedics reached the scene. WSB Radio shares that the emergency crews took over life-saving efforts before she was hospitalized at Emory DeKalb Hospital, where she remains in the ICU. “The mother did what mothers would naturally do and jumped in after her,” remarked John Bankhead with the Stone Mountain Police Department, imparting the instinctive bravery the mother exhibited in the face of peril…
