The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office is starting to look at expanding the county’s jail with a new tower that will help address capacity needs as well as issues with aging parts of the existing facility.
Chief Deputy Cleo Atwater briefly addressed the office’s operational and capital needs on Wednesday during a presentation to the county’s citizens budget review committee. Atwater did not bring any operational decision packages for the committee to consider, but he did say there were areas the office needs to address now and in the years to come, such as facilities, a need for more body-worn cameras and other equipment and ongoing efforts to beef up staffing.
