Atlanta Man Sentenced to 45 Years for Violent Carjacking, Fulton County Judge Orders 30-Year Jail Term

A 21-year-old Atlanta man, Kentario Shields, has been handed a 45-year sentence after a Fulton County jury found him guilty of a violent carjacking incident. According to FOX 5 Atlanta, the charges included theft by receiving, first-degree carjacking, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Emerson ruled that Shields must serve 30 of those years behind bars.

During the carjacking, which took place on February 19, 2024, at an apartment complex on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard, Shields aggressively took control of a man’s vehicle and cellphone at gunpoint. Prosecutors later tracked down Shields by way of photos sent from the victim’s phone, which had been linked to the victim’s iCloud account, Shield, threatening to kill the victim’s family if the stolen car was reported, according to messages.

Shields was arrested on April 13, 2024, following a traffic stop while still being found with the victim’s stolen car and cellphone in his possession. These events culminated in his recent conviction and subsequent sentencing.
