Food, rent, and bills: Nonprofits warn SNAP lapse could trigger wider financial strain

CHAMBLEE, Ga. — As the delay in federal SNAP benefits continues, Georgia nonprofits are fielding a surge in families seeking their help.

At St. Vincent de Paul’s Family Support Center, the lines for food and assistance are growing daily. Volunteers say it’s become a lifeline for families struggling to keep food on the table.

“We’ve seen lots of seniors … people who really need this food … lots of families, lots of children,” said Valentine, a volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul’s food market. “I had a lady that said, ‘Bless all of you guys … this means the world for me,’ because she hasn’t had a job for three weeks.”…
