Austell man charged with firing gun near Cumberland Publix

An Austell man is in custody after police say he fired a handgun near a Publix grocery store in Cumberland Sunday afternoon.

According to jail records, William Fields, 23, has been charged with multiple felonies including two counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, as well as misdemeanor charges of reckless conduct and discharging a firearm on or near a public highway or street.
