When firefighters in Georgia were called out to rescue a person allegedly stuck in a patch of mud, they (obviously) didn’t expect to be conducting a fawn rescue instead.
But that’s exactly what happened in June of this year, when the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department responded to said call in north-central Georgia.
“Earlier today, DCFR responded to a call at Henderson Mill Park for a person reportedly stuck in the mud,” the Fire Rescue Department explained on social media. “But when crews arrived, they discovered it wasn’t a person at all, it was a young fawn, exhausted and trapped after venturing too far into the mud. Without hesitation, our dedicated crews jumped into action. Working carefully and quickly, they were able to free the frightened fawn and bring it to safety unharmed. It was a small rescue with a big heart, and just another reminder that DCFR is always ready to lend a hand, no matter who needs help.”
The Fire Department also shared sweet photos of the rescue, including one of the baby deer completely caked in mud in one firefighter’s arms, and one of the whole crew posing proudly with the fawn.
One commenter wasn’t happy with the amount of information the Fire Department had provided and wrote, “Thank you for getting it out of the mud. Wish you had ensured its safety, rather than setting it down and letting it just run off with no mother in sight. It is traumatized, fearful, and most assuredly he is having a body temperature issue. All of those things need a licensed, qualified rehabber.”…
