Fugitive unit captures suspects in two cases within 24 hours

Officials with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said the fugitive unit captured two suspects, wanted on unrelated violent crimes, within a 24-hour period.

Authorities stated that 46-year-old Bryan Byers of Stone Mountain fled a courthouse before his Dec. 1 trial on rape and kidnapping charges was scheduled to begin. Byers, who was out on bond, reported to court to face charges related to a July 2017 incident but left prior to the start of the proceedings, prompting the court to issue a warrant for his arrest, stated officials. Investigators said they located and arrested Byers Dec. 2 at approximately 11:30 a.m. outside of Hairston Crossing Library on Redan Road in Stone Mountain.

Byers was taken into custody without incident and transported to the DeKalb County Jail, where he is being held without bond and now faces an additional charge of failure to appear for a jury trial, stated officials…
