Suwanee woman scammed out of more than $25,000, police say

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — The Suwanee Police Department said it is investigating a scam in which a resident lost more than $25,000 after suspects impersonated law enforcement officers.

Investigators say in October individuals claiming to be members of the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office contacted the victim on the phone.

Police said the caller initially called from an unknown number, then called back using a number that appeared on caller ID as “Gwinnett County.” Investigators say that caller ID was later determined to be spoofed using an application commonly utilized by scammers…
