Atlanta Police Respond to Juvenile Disturbance and Fireworks at Atlantic Station, Five Detained After Gunfire Incident

Chaos erupted at Atlantic Station this past Saturday when the Atlanta Police Department had to step in and diffuse a situation involving a group of juveniles reportedly engaging in a fight and setting off fireworks. The incident, which occurred at approximately 7:16 p.m. at 1371 Market Street SW, brought a swift response from law enforcement as they attempted to manage the unruly crowd, as described in a statement by the Atlanta Police Department.

With the arrival of the APD and in collaboration with Atlantic Station’s security team, a strategic approach was taken to disperse the crowd which had gathered in the popular shopping and dining district. The fireworks, which had been ignited among the congregation of young people, prompted not only local units but the intervention of specialized teams including the Phoenix Air Unit, the K-9 Unit, and the Georgia State Patrol. The tense situation was handled without any reported injuries.

As the night progressed, the focus shifted near 17th Street and Spring Street SW where, according to the Atlanta Police Department, officers on the scene witnessed a subset of the group exchanging gunfire leading to property damage of nearby businesses.
