Acworth man charged after alleged late-night copper wire theft attempt

Douglas Grant Henderson, 34, of Acworth, is accused of stealing copper wire on Jan. 20 at 11:40 p.m. from 1st Franklin Financial, 510 Roberts Court, Kennesaw, according to an arrest warrant from the Cobb County Police Department.

Henderson drove a rented U-Haul truck to the business. He and his accomplice removed several bolts and fixtures securing the wire in place using tools they brought. Henderson and his accomplice affixed a rope to the wires on one end and the U-Haul truck on the other end, intending to pull the wires from the ground using the truck. Henderson, with gloves on his hands and a ski mask in his vehicle, fled on foot when approached by police, according to the warrant.

Henderson is charged with criminal attempt – financial; loiter prowl; obstruction/hindering law enforcement; and possession of tools. Henderson was arrested on Jan. 20 at 11:46 p.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records…
