Cobb chairwoman talks transit tax, joining MARTA

After Cobb County voters rejected a tax increase to fund transit in 2024, Chairwoman Lisa Cupid said there are no plans to try again, at least for now.

In a presentation to commissioners earlier this month, Cobb Department of Transportation staff touted two years of rising ridership on the CobbLinc, the county’s bus system, as it recovers back to pre-pandemic levels. They also highlighted the success of an on-demand transit program in south Cobb, which has proved popular.

Transportation officials have plenty of ideas to expand transit and build new facilities, but limited room in the budget. Instead, the county must rely on short-term state and federal grants to modestly expand services…
