A Winder woman has been arrested after police said her child shot himself in the hand in a restaurant parking lot in Gwinnett County.
The Gwinnett County Police Department said officers were called on Wednesday, Feb. 18, to the Burger King restaurant on Braselton Highway in Mulberry to a report of a four-year-old child who was shot. When officers arrived, they determined the four-year-old was the child of Nicole Johnson, age 29 of Winder.
“[Johnson] said she was in a parking lot eating breakfast with her son in the car. She told officers she was on the phone when she was not aware her son had retrieved a handgun out of the glovebox and was able to shoot the handgun, hitting himself in the hand,” the police department said.
The boy was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for what police called “non-life-threatening injuries.” Johnson was arrested on a charge of reckless conduct and has since been released from the Gwinnett County Jail on bond…
