There are good burgers, and then there are really good burgers. It’s an important difference because, although fast food burgers offer convenience, we’re drawn to the hyper-local businesses that prioritize consistency, quality, and just a dash of creativity. For proof of this, we invite you to visit NFA Burger. Inside a humble gas station building, you’ll discover what might just be the best burger in all of Georgia.
It all started in 2018 when NFA Burger owner and founder Billy Kramer began a second career focused on something that inspired him: crafting the perfect smashburger. The business began as a pop-up and, due to popular demand, a permanent location was established inside the Chevron in Dunwoody. Within five years, the restaurant attracted not just local attention but also national fame. Both Food & Wine and Reader’s Digest deemed it the best burger in Georgia. The name of the restaurant—an abbreviation of Not Fooling Around—certainly holds up.
So, what makes these burgers so special? To start, it’s the technique of smashing the perfectly seasoned burger on the grill, which gives it a wonderfully crispy edge and an explosion of flavor. From there, it’s simple and straightforward: American cheese, Mt. Olive pickles, French’s mustard, plus a secret “Sassy Sauce” all served on a Martin’s potato roll. The sauce is a little sweet and also has a bit of a kick to it.
In addition to burgers, diners can choose between a few varieties of hot dogs or a grilled cheese. For sides, there are crinkle fries and tater tots, both served with a side of Sassy Sauce. Burgers can be customized, but only to a point. Ketchup enthusiasts should heed this warning on the menu: “We’ll add ketchup to any sandwich for $1 million…we’ll put it on the side for free.”
At its busiest, there’s typically a line out the door. But don’t worry; they’ve got the grilling down to a science, and you won’t be waiting too long. Plus, the burgers are so delicious, you’ll agree it’s worth it! In addition to serving up some of the town’s best burgers, NFA Burger also gives back to the community by supporting Giving Kitchen. This organization helps provide emergency assistance to food service workers through both financial support and community resources.
