Leader of violent jewelry theft ring that stole from stores in Tennessee, other states, pleads guilty mid-trial

CHARLOTTE, NC (WSMV) – A Georgia man who authorities say ran an organized and violent theft ring across multiple states has pleaded guilty mid-trial.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Western District of North Carolina said Friday that Deuntria Lamar Lyons, 45, of Valdosta, Georgia, had been undergoing a federal trial since Monday. After two days of testimony, he pleaded guilty without the benefit of a plea deal on charges including conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery and Hobbs Act robbery.

His co-conspirators, Brandane Smith and Alzaah Wade, previously pleaded guilty to the same conspiracy charge and are awaiting sentencing…
