Cumming rejects annexation for new FoCo admin building, denies “extortion” claims

Discussions on the potential annexation of the new Forsyth County Administration Building by the City of Cumming came to a head on Tuesday.

The county has built a new administrative building on Freedom Parkway just south of Keith Bridge Road near Ga. 400. The building is complete, with the county advertising a tour of the facility for county residents on Wednesday, Mar. 18, and Saturday, Mar. 21.

However, the county board of commissioners is currently not allowed to hold voting meetings in the facility due to Georgia code that requires county business to be conducted in the city limits of the county seat. In the case of Forsyth County, that is in the City of Cumming.

The current county administration building, located on E. Main Street, is in the city limits. The new facility, however, lies just north of the city. That means commissioners could not hold public voting meetings there without either having the property annexed into the City of Cumming, or being granted a legislative exemption from the code…
