HOSCHTON — Once a smaller high school that rarely challenged the top of the team standings in the Gwinnett County Track and Field Championships, Buford now sits alone at the top.
The Wolves swept the boys and girls titles at the county meet for the first time at Mill Creek on Saturday and added another milestone to the track and field program’s rise over the past decade. Buford repeated as the boys county champion — its Gwinnett title last year was its first — while the girls team won county for the first time since back-to-back championships in 2017 and 2018.
“When I took over eight or nine years ago, I never saw anything explosive like this (happening),” Buford head coach Fyrone Davis said. “I never saw two (county titles) in one year. We had been dominant on the girls side and and now to do it on the boys side and have a double win, that just blows me away. We used to be little Buford, they called us. … We have great athletes who run hard and compete well.”…
