CANTON, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — After a four-day trial and two and a half hours of jury deliberations, a mother in Cherokee County was found guilty of abusing her own child and sentenced to 40 years in prison.
On Thursday, Candice Nicole McClure, 35, was found guilty of one count of aggravated assault and two counts of cruelty to children in the first degree.
Superior Court Judge Shannon Wallace presided over McClure’s trial and sentencing.
“The trauma this child experienced is heartbreaking,” Cherokee County District Attorney Susan Treadaway said in a statement. “Instead of protecting her own child, the defendant repeatedly inflicted abuse that caused lasting harm.”…
