Nine arrested after March “teen takeover” at Mall of Georgia

Nine people were arrested and one person was injured after police responded to a “teen takeover” event at the Mall of Georgia in Buford last week.

The Gwinnett County Police Department said the incident happened on the night of March 28.

“A teen takeover is an organized gathering where large groups of teenagers and young adults meet at a specific location,” the police department said in a statement. “While some attendees simply gather to socialize, these events have increasingly become associated with disorderly behavior, fights, property damage, and other criminal activity.”

The department said it placed an increased officer presence at the mall in anticipation of the event. The nine people arrested included two adults and seven juveniles, who were arrested on charges including obstruction, affray, disorderly conduct and criminal trespassing…
