High rainfall totals expected over the next 24 hours have resulted in much of North Georgia being put under a flood watch.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City issued a statement Sunday afternoon saying more than two dozen counties – including Hall, Forsyth, Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Towns, Union, Fannin, Gilmer and Pickens counties – will be under a flood watch through 10 p.m. Monday
“Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to move across the area through at least Monday evening. An anomalously moist environment over north Georgia will support high rain rates (1-2″+/hour) through Monday night which will lead to increased chances for localized flash flooding,” the statement from the weather service said. “A few strong to severe storms are also possible through Monday evening with damaging wind gusts (40-60mph) and frequent lightning being the main threats.”…
