AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – BSA Health System held a special recognition Wednesday morning to honor Canyon ISD student Jackson Rath, whose act of generosity has inspired several new initiatives throughout the hospital.
Jackson Rath first captured hearts at BSA after sending in a donation he raised himself through selling gemstones and a handwritten letter sharing his desire to help pediatric patients. In his note, he wrote: “Make sure everyone gets their care. Give the patients whatever they want! They deserve it!”

In response, representatives said the BSA Health System launched several initiatives to honor Jackson’s compassion, starting with the Jackson Rath Heart of Service Scholarship. According to officials, the scholarship has received an enthusiastic response from students across the community. This annual scholarship is awarded to children of BSA employees who are pursuing higher education beyond high school. Audrey White, the 2026 recipient, was awarded the $500 Jackson Rath Heart of Service Scholarship for exemplifying a strong spirit of service and generosity.
Inspired by Jackson’s story, representatives noted Amarillo National Bank has partnered with BSA to create a $500 savings account in Jackson’s name. According to hospital officials, William Ware, President of Amarillo National Bank and member of the BSA Governing Board, was deeply moved by Jackson’s selfless actions and sought to invest in his future.

Jackson’s generosity has also inspired BSA to launch Kids Care Cards, a program encouraging Canyon ISD elementary students to create birthday, get-well, and encouragement cards for children receiving care in the Pediatric Unit.
