AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Neighbors helping neighbors; that is the goal of the food pantry that Shelby Palmer placed in front of her home to make sure no one goes food insecure.
“We started the pantry kind of when WIC was disestablished or unestablished. We wanted to provide people in our community, especially those in the South Lawn neighborhood, with access to food if they were experiencing food instability or insecurity,” explained Palmer. “We live one street down from a middle school. We’re on the corner. I was like, this is a great place.”
Palmer added that she always sees Little Free Libraries around the neighborhood, but she wanted to apply the same concept to food.

“Food insecurity is a very important thing, and I think it’s more prevalent than we know. I think it’s something that people are embarrassed about, so they don’t talk about it to other people when they’re experiencing food insecurity,” explained Palmer. “I think it’s definitely more people than we think are experiencing it.”…
