We’ve talked a lot about the number of businesses closing their doors in Amarillo lately. It’s been staggering to see the number of places having to close due to the economic conditions, and quite honestly, the number of people shifting more to online shopping.
Now, there are companies in Amarillo that aren’t going to shut their doors as they are more of the corporate persuasion. However, those places tend to have a lot of people working there, and even those companies are feeling the economic strain and looking for ways to save money.
Bell Textron Laying Off Employees
Over the weekend, news came out that one of the largest employers in Amarillo went through a layoff. Bell Textron was the latest hit by the tough economic conditions as it was reported that some employees lost their jobs heading into the end of the month.
Word right now is that approximately 30 people were affected by the layoffs that happened. According to the company, the layoffs were to “align the business with market realities”. Code for, we aren’t making as much money right now, so we had to let some people go to account for it.
Are More Layoffs Expected
As of right now, we haven’t heard if there could be more on the horizon, but the possibility always exists. It wasn’t too long ago that Tyson Foods here in Amarillo went through something similar, but that layoff was far bigger than the one experienced at Bell Textron…
