Helium Heights welcomes Route 66 crowd to first outdoor event

Helium Heights, which sat stately west of Amarillo as a federal facilty for decades and once served as an important link in U.S. defense having valuable helium, hosted a new crowd of people Friday and Saturday, June 5-6, as they held their first-ever free outdoor event with more than 75 vendors and food trucks.

The new owners of Helium Heights linked in with Amarillo’s Texas Route 66 centennial celebration, with its location being where Loop 335 and Route 66 meet.

Future plans are to create a family traveling experience along Route 66, with a multi-use gathering space that could host weddings, reunions, and concerts when fully completed around 2027…
