Dangerous Heat, Severe Storm Threat Target Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles

Dangerous heat and severe storms are possible across the central and eastern Texas/Oklahoma Panhandles Wednesday afternoon and evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the central and eastern Panhandles that is in effect form 1pm-9pm Wednesday. Heat index values up to 101 are possible with temperatures even higher. An Extreme Heat Warning has also been issued for the Palo Duro Canyon for Wednesday afternoon and evening. Temperatures up to 110 are possible.

Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible later today, mainly across the central and eastern Panhandles. While storm coverage is expected to remain limited, any storms that develop could quickly become severe, producing large hail and damaging winds. The tornado threat is very low, but not zero. The threat for severe storms will increase again Thursday afternoon and evening.
