AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — As reported by AAA Texas’ Weekend Gas Watch, the average gas price across Texas was $3.36 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel on Thursday. This price is 13 cents less than it was last week and 52 cents more compared to the same day last year.
According to AAA Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.75 per gallon, while drivers in the Sherman/Denison area are paying the least at $3.15 per gallon. Amarillo drivers are currently paying an average of $3.33 per gallon, which is 13 cents less than last week and 55 cents more compared to the same day last year.
AAA Texas officials predict that gas prices are declining in Texas as the Independence Day holiday travel period begins on June 27. Officials note that pump prices can fluctuate heading into the holiday; however, falling crude oil prices are helping maintain an overall downward trend.
Amarillo gas prices down 8.6 cents Monday, average $3.37/gallon
“Gas prices continue to move in the right direction as the official Independence Day travel period begins this weekend,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “While fluctuations are always possible during a busy holiday travel period, lower crude oil prices are supporting the overall downward trend, which is excellent news for the millions of travelers preparing to hit the road.”
