AAA Texas: Gas prices remain elevated as summer ends

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — As reported by AAA Texas’ Weekend Gas Watch, the average gas price across Texas was $3.64 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel on Thursday. This price is one cent more than it was last week and 89 cents more compared to the same day last year.

According to AAA Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $3.96 per gallon, while drivers in Beaumont-Port Arthur, Houston and Tyler are paying the least at $3.56 per gallon. Amarillo drivers are currently paying an average of $3.76 per gallon, which is 26 cents more than last week and $1.10 more compared to the same day last year.

Officials note that gasoline prices are easing as summer travel winds down; however, elevated crude oil prices continue to influence the cost.

Gas prices are rising, but drivers using this type of fuel have it worse

“Texas gas prices moved slightly higher this week, but the statewide average remains relatively stable,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesperson for AAA Texas. “We’re seeing a mixed picture across the state, with prices rising in some communities and falling in others. Lower gasoline demand could provide some relief as summer winds down, but crude oil prices will continue to be an important factor in determining what drivers pay at the pump.”
