AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Texas Panhandle Pet Savers says it’s caring for dozens of dogs and cats through its foster-based rescue program as the organization continues to see a growing need for foster homes, volunteers and donations.
Unlike a traditional animal shelter, Texas Panhandle Pet Savers places animals in volunteer foster homes while they wait to be adopted.

Foster volunteer Sarah Sabins said the foster-based model allows animals to stay in a home environment while waiting for a permanent family.
“Our dogs and cats get to go home to a loving home, and they’re loved on all week until they find their forever homes,” Sabins said.
The rescue said it currently has about 40 to 60 animals in foster care, although that number can fluctuate and sometimes reaches as many as 80 to 100 pets depending on adoptions and new intakes…
