Letter writer says Herring Hotel, plant news show business is cooking

I was just reading the Sunday edition of the Amarillo Globe-News.

I saw two items that tell us business is cooking. The first one was a business adding additional capacity to the Owens Corning plant. The second had to do with the old Herring Hotel. That hotel was built in the 1920’s. The intent at the time was to provide a neat place for ranchers and others who needed a place to stay in Amarillo. Some of the visitors took the train to town, with the station just a short distance from the Herring.

I came to Amarillo in 1967 as a sales representative of Equitable Life. There was an agent in our office who was the second licensed agent for Equitable in Texas. Clyde Rehmeyer was in his 70’s…
