Amarillo Labor Day picnic celebrates labor workers

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Southern Regional Council of Carpenters, the West Texas Building and Construction Trades Council, and the Amarillo Central Labor Council partnered to host a Labor Day picnic at Memorial Park.

The picnic ran from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and was free and open to the public.

“We’re out here for Labor Day. It’s kind of a special day for the carpenters. We started it back 120 years ago up in Boston, New York area when a bunch of carpenters said together that, you know what, we’re not going to go to work. We’re going to go have a picnic instead. It’s that solidarity and building that solidarity here in the Panhandle and across the nation,” said Zachary Bopp, business representative for the local 665 carpenters union…
