Forecasters say storms are developing near Texas on Monday, September 14. As the system moves out of New Mexico, cities in the state’s northernmost area could be hit.
According to the Amarillo office of the National Weather Service (NWS), a wave of thunderstorms will enter the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles by Monday afternoon. Western towns, including Borger, Vega, and Stratford, face rain chances beginning at 3 p.m.
“Storms will be moving from west to east throughout the afternoon and evening,” the NWS says. “Some showers may still linger into the overnight hours.”
In the evening, forecasters say showers in the northwest could result in heat bursts, defined as “rare, atmospheric nighttime events characterized by gusty winds, a rapid increase in surface temperature, and a decrease in surface dewpoint.” Winds could reach up to 60 mph…
