Lubbock temporarily cuts back on water to aid Amarillo during drought

LUBBOCK, Texas — The City of Lubbock cut back on water usage for 9 days in August to help Amarillo refill its reservoir, according to City Manager Jarrett Atkinson.

On August 17, Amarillo entered Stage 1 of its drought contingency plan, calling for voluntary conservation efforts. Its water storage reservoir reached as low as 52% at one point.

“In Lubbock, we went for a period of seven days first where we told CRMWA and Amarillo we’ll take about 5 million a day less than what we normally take,” said Lubbock City Manager Jarrett Atkinson, “then if Amarillo wants to take it, they can. We extended it for two days past that.”…
