AAA Texas: Gas prices continue to rise

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — As reported by AAA Texas’ Weekend Gas Watch, the average gas price across Texas was $3.93 per gallon for regular unleaded fuel on Thursday. This price is 10 cents more than it was last week and $1.14 more compared to the same day last year.

According to AAA Texas, drivers in El Paso are paying the most on average at $4.41 per gallon, while drivers in Houston are paying the least at $3.83 per gallon. Amarillo drivers are currently paying an average of $3.96 per gallon, which is 15 cents more than last week and $1.21 more compared to the same day last year.

“Texas drivers are seeing an unusual trend for this time of year. Gas prices typically decline after the summer travel season, but persistently high crude oil prices are pushing costs in the opposite direction,” said Daniel Armbruster, AAA Texas spokesperson. “With crude oil hovering around $100 per barrel, there continues to be significant upward pressure on pump prices. If we don’t see some relief soon, Texas could experience the most expensive September statewide gas price average on record.”
