Flash flood warning issued for Amarillo area

After a very hot and dry summer, several parts of the Texas Panhandle are now seeing the other extreme, with two flash flood warnings and a flood advisory in effect Friday, Sept. 25.

The Amarillo area is under a flash flood warning until 12:30 p.m. Friday due to heavy rainfall continuing through the region from storms that started Wednesday afternoon and continued Thursday into overnight.

The National Weather Service in Amarillo said in the warning for southeastern Potter County and north central Randall County that at 9:29 a.m., “Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 4 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.”…
