AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Amarillo City Council is set to hold a special meeting to discuss the proposed fiscal year 2026/2027 budget and tax rate on Tuesday, which the Texas Municipal League notes is the last day the city may adopt the budget and tax rate before the start of the new fiscal year.
The 2026/2027 fiscal year is set to begin on Thursday, Oct. 1. The TML guidance states Tuesday is the last day a city may hold a public hearing to adopt a new budget and tax rate if they exceed the “no-new-revenue” or voter-approval rates, and the deadline at which the Amarillo City Council will be required to officially adopt its tax rate and budget.

According to the published agenda, the Amarillo City Council is set to meet at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in the Council Chamber of Amarillo City Hall, with sign-up for public comment available online here, by calling the City Secretary’s office at 806-378-3014, or in person at least 15 minutes before the scheduled meeting start time.
