North Amarillo petition seeks alcohol ordinance change to spur restaurants, jobs

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Some residents in north Amarillo are pushing for changes they believe could bring more restaurants, jobs and business development to the area — starting with a petition drive this weekend aimed at changing local alcohol sales restrictions.

The effort is focused on parts of north Amarillo, particularly areas north of Plains Boulevard and beyond Amarillo Boulevard, between Western and Coulter streets. Organizers want to change current restrictions to allow businesses to apply for mixed-beverage permits, which would allow qualifying restaurants to serve liquor and other alcoholic drinks.
