AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) — Keeping students safe in Amarillo ISD has become a growing challenge as the district works to meet state requirements for armed security on campuses amid funding and staffing shortages.
Texas law generally requires an armed security officer at every school. But the law includes a “good cause exception” that allows a district that cannot meet the requirement because of funding or staffing limits to use an alternative plan.
