1 injured after early Wednesday fire near SW 2nd Avenue, South Tyler Street

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Amarillo Fire Department released information on an early Wednesday fire on Southwest Second Avenue and South Tyler Street, in which minimal property damage was reported but one person was injured.

According to the department, crews responded to the area of Southwest Second Avenue and South Tyler Street early Wednesday morning after a call from the Guyon Saunders Resource Center reported a fire in a nearby building. One person had started a warming fire in the building, according to officials, and woke on Wednesday morning to find the fire had spread out of control.

The person was treated for injuries, according to department officials, though no extensive damage to the building or surrounding area was reported. The fire was considered under control before Wednesday afternoon and was ruled as an “accidental” fire.
