High Plains Food Bank in urgent need of volunteers

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The High Plains Food Bank serves 29 counties in the Texas Panhandle and it is currently in urgent need of volunteers.

Volunteers at the food bank take donated goods and inspect, sort, and pack boxes of food in the HPFB warehouse. Tess Matthews, community engagement coordinator, said the food bank is in urgent need of volunteers for the rest of January, but also year-round.

“We love big groups or individuals,” Matthews said. “We just need people to come out and help us pack up these boxes so we can get it out to our community.”

Matthews said volunteers can sign up for shifts throughout the week. People can volunteer in the mornings Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Afternoon shifts are available Monday through Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. There are evening and weekend shifts as well.

“A typical shift is around three hours long,” she said. “We do have evening shifts that are available that are only two hours from 6 to 8 p.m. and then we have a Saturday shift which a lot of groups come out and it is from 9 a.m. to noon.”
