Where and how to recycle in Amarillo

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – While most people in the United States think recycling is important, reports such as those from the World Economic Forum found that most Americans do not recycle due to a lack of regular, convenient access.

Further, the WEF noted that most people don’t fully understand what can actually be recycled even if they have a recycling resource. These points are illustrated regularly even in Amarillo, with common search terms, social media posts, and forum questions often focused on community members wondering what, where, and how to recycle.

The City of Amarillo operates multiple recycling drop-offs that are free for the use of city residents, including for materials such as oil, tin, aluminum, and cardboard. The city also operates a compost facility and multiple brush sites for landscaping waste.

Free drop-off sites and facilities around Amarillo include:

  • Oil, oil filters, tin, and aluminum drop-off:
  • Central Recycling Drop Off Center – SE 27th & Hayes
  • 9000 W 34th – Behind Fire Station #2
  • 208 E Hastings – Behind Fire Station #4
  • Sixth and Western – Next to the water tower
