Amarillo ISD teachers learn about using AI in the classroom

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – This week, teachers from Wolflin Elementary were able to sit down and learn about AI and how to use the software to help them and students in the classroom.

This week’s training focused on two AI websites, ChatGPT and MagicSchool AI. Mindy Montano, a digital learning specialist with the district said the training taught younger grade-level teachers how to use AI to generate a song on a topic they are studying, create project-based learning lessons, as well as create personalized math story problems for students. The training also taught upper elementary teachers how to use AI to grade short and long essays using a rubric.

“AI has been around for a long time, what we are showing teachers today is called generative AI. So we put information into the AI website and it generates information back to us…But this is providing them with a resource to help guide them in different tools, such as lesson planning, lesson planning for substitutes, help them create lesson plans for group work, or like I said earlier help them create songs for Pre-K/Kindergarten students to help them with rhyming words, spelling words or learning different words” said Montano.
