Opportunity School provides early childhood education, serves low-income families

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Opportunity School is a nationally accredited early childhood education program in the Texas Panhandle that serves low-income families. The school provides a curriculum, trains teachers, and supports the whole family.

The focus of the Opportunity School is to support parents who are working or are in school. Jill Goodrich, the Opportunity School’s executive director, said that in addition to supporting the parents, the school supports children’s learning with high-quality early childhood education.

“When Opportunity School was started, there was just early research about the importance of early learning about preschool and that is something that has been part of our mission. We’re focused on those early years,” Goodrich said. “We start at age six weeks and help follow children through to kindergarten. The reason why that’s so important is that we have the greatest opportunity to make the biggest impact in how a child learns and grows and develops when they’re very young.”
