Discovery Center Collective begins lecture series for Black History Month, Women’s History Month

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Discovery Center Collective with the Don Harrington Discovery Center announced it will host a lecture series for Black History Month and Women’s History Month highlighting community members and how they support the Amarillo area.

According to DCC officials, the program will highlight eight speakers talking about their role in the community and how attendees can help build the Amarillo community. Officials noted that the program dates and topics are:

  • Melodie Graves will speak on Feb. 9 with the topic called, Made with Pressure;
  • Tremaine Brown will speak on Feb. 23 with the topic Greater Than the Sum of Our Parts;
  • Bobbi Britto and Lynn Jennings will speak on March 8 on the topic of Stigmas of Mental Health; and
  • Wendy Taylor, Malalay Mubariz, and Mary Emeny will speak on March 22 on the topic of Using Science to Build Community.

Officials noted that reservations or tickets are not required and the lecture series will take place at DHDC with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and a 6:30 p.m. start. The lecture series is meant primarily for adults in the community with the first series date happening the same night as DHDC’s Parents’ Night Out, according to officials.
