Texas Tech hosts first white coat ceremony for the School of Veterinary Medicine

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Texas Tech University will be honoring 62 students in the first white coat ceremony for the School of Veterinary Medicine on March 17.

According to officials from Texas Tech, the milestone of the white coat ceremony represents students’ educational progression from pre-clinical training to delivering veterinary care during their clinical training starting in May. Officials noted the white coats will be worn by students during the fourth and final year as students complete their clinical rotations across Texas and New Mexico.

“Stepping from the classroom into the clinic is a sacred rite of passage in the training of medical professionals,” said Guy Loneragan, dean of the School of Veterinary Medicine. “Achieving this step is no mean feat. It takes tremendous determination, resilience, adaptability and a healthy dose of grit.”

Officials with Texas Tech are encouraging those who wish to support the students being honored by providing a donation to support a white coat of $100 per coat or sharing words of encouragement notes that will be presented during the ceremony.
