Amarillo Municipal Court, police department start citation compliance campaign

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The City of Amarillo Municipal Court began a compliance campaign on Monday focused on community members with outstanding citations and encouraging residents to take steps to resolve their cases with the court.

According to an announcement from the Amarillo Police Department, the Municipal Court will begin the “second phase” of its compliance campaign in March by working with the police to address outstanding warrants, with officers assigned to serve outstanding warrants in the Amarillo area starting the week of March 4.

The police department noted that even once a warrant has been issued related to a city citation, there are still options for resolving the case. Depending on the situation, that can include trials before a judge or jury, payment plans, community service, or time to search for a job. Further, the department reminded that a person is always entitled to hire an attorney to handle their cases or to represent themselves, and that those pleading “guilty” or “no contest” can often pay their related fines online.
