Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management hosts free Community Emergency Response Team training

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Amarillo Area Office of Emergency Management will offer a free training program in April with the aim of training everyday citizens to help in community emergency situations.

According to the City of Amarillo, the Amarillo OEM will offer its free Community Emergency Response Team Academy program on Saturdays starting in April a four-day academy intended to equip community members with skills and knowledge to help in emergency situations. The CERT was described as a volunteer program to train people in basic disaster preparedness and response skills.

The CERT Academy program, according to city officials, will be held in the Amarillo OEM office in the Simms Building on Buchanan Street on Saturdays in April and May from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., including:

  • April 6
  • April 20
  • May 4
  • May 18

Further, officials noted that a hands-on practical will be held on May 30 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
